Physical AI And Embodied Intelligence

See how robots use AI to sense their surroundings, choose actions and move safely.

About This Course

Introduction

A generated sentence can be revised on screen. A moving machine can change its physical surroundings before anyone has time to correct it. Physical AI connects computation with sensing and action, making timing, geometry, uncertainty, hardware, and operating conditions central to the design.

We will follow sensors, data, perception, state estimation, models, planning, control, actuators, safety, and customer economics. The route also covers simulation, imitation learning, reinforcement learning, teleoperation, and the move from simulation into real conditions. You can complete the practice through diagrams and simulated examples without a real robot.

Review multimodal representations in Multimodal AI: Images, Audio, Video, And Documents, decisions in Decisions, Forecasting, Optimization, And Causality, device constraints in Edge And On-Device AI, and system risk in AI Security, Safety, And Governance. Your project examines a physical-AI company using dated primary evidence and a clear account of how its system works.

Planned Lessons

  1. Embodiment And The Task EnvironmentSee how a robot’s job and surroundings shape what its AI needs to do, from moving through a room to picking up an object.
  2. Sensors And MeasurementsExplore how cameras and other sensors give a robot information about the world around it.
  3. PerceptionSee how a robot turns pictures and other measurements into an idea of what is nearby.
  4. Sensor Fusion And State EstimationFind out how a robot combines clues from several sensors to work out where it is and what is happening.
  5. Coordinates, Pose, And TransformsFollow how a robot describes where things are and which way they face, so it can move towards them.
  6. World Models And DynamicsSee how a robot can estimate what might happen next when it or something nearby moves.
  7. PlanningExplore how a robot chooses steps towards a goal, such as finding a route around an obstacle.
  8. Control And FeedbackSee how a robot checks its movement and makes corrections when it starts to go off course.
  9. Actuators And Mechanical LimitsFind out how motors and joints carry out an AI system’s instructions, and where physical limits matter.
  10. Robot Data And DemonstrationsSee how recordings of people and robots doing tasks become examples for training robot AI.
  11. Imitation LearningExplore how a robot learns a task by following examples of someone performing it.
  12. Reinforcement LearningSee how a robot can learn from trying actions and receiving feedback about the results.
  13. Simulation And Synthetic DataExplore how virtual worlds let developers train and test robot behaviour before using real machines.
  14. Sim-To-Real TransferFind out why a robot that works in a simulation may struggle in the real world, and what needs checking.
  15. Vision-Language-Action ModelsSee how robot AI can connect what a camera sees and what a person asks with the actions it takes.
  16. Teleoperation And Human InterventionExplore when a person needs to guide or take over a robot, and how that affects its usefulness.
  17. Safety And Operating AssuranceIdentify what could go wrong when AI controls a moving machine and the checks needed before it is used.
  18. Manufacturing And Hardware EconomicsConnect the cost of building, repairing and running a robot to whether it makes sense for a customer.
