Delivering A Data-Center Project

Follow the decisions and work needed to turn a data-centre plan into a working service.

About This Course

Introduction

A building shell, delivered equipment, an energized substation, a booted server, and a customer-ready cluster are all milestones. Each milestone requires separate evidence. A project is complete for its purpose when the required systems deliver the specified service and the relevant parties accept it. We will follow how those pieces come together.

The route includes site diligence, design, procurement, construction, interconnection, integration, commissioning, acceptance, and handover to operations. Your project is a plan showing dependencies, the critical path, risks, and cash timing. Modules 3–7 and 9 provide the background. You can understand the delivery logic without being an engineer; real electrical and construction work still requires qualified specialists and applicable standards.

Use Lessons 1–5 for scope and dependencies, 6–10 for execution and testing, and 11–15 for control and handover. At each stage, identify something that could delay customer receipts. Ask what must happen, what would prove it happened, and what depends on it next.

Planned Lessons

  1. Define The Delivered Service Before Drawing The BuildingDescribe the service a data centre must deliver before planning the building.
  2. Site Selection Is A Bundle Of ConstraintsCompare sites through the power, connections, land and local conditions they offer.
  3. Interconnection And The Path To Energized CapacityFollow the steps that turn a power agreement into electricity a site can actually use.
  4. Dependency Logic And The Critical PathFind the chain of dependent tasks that determines when a project can finish.
  5. Design Maturity, Decisions, And Change ControlManage decisions and changes as a data-centre design becomes more detailed.
  6. Procurement And Long-Lead EquipmentOrder equipment early enough for its delivery time and place in the project plan.
  7. Construction, EPC, And CoordinationSee how contractors coordinate the different parts of building a data centre.
  8. Creating A Cluster Requires Hardware And IntegrationConnect installed AI computers with the networks and software needed to make them work.
  9. Commissioning Checks The Behavior Of The SystemTest whether the site’s equipment works together under real operating conditions.
  10. Acceptance Is A Contractual And Operational EventAgree what must be demonstrated before the customer accepts the service.
  11. Phased Delivery And Shared InfrastructurePlan how one part of a site can open while depending on equipment shared with later phases.
  12. Risk Registers, Buffers, And UncertaintyRecord what may go wrong and allow time or money for uncertain events.
  13. Progress Measures And Earned ValueCompare reported project progress with work completed and money spent.
  14. Handover, Operational Readiness, And MaintenancePrepare the people, documents and maintenance arrangements needed after construction.
  15. One Integrated Delivery DecisionBring schedule, cost, readiness and risk together in a project decision.
